David Cerqueira is an Associate in the Labor Law and Bankruptcy, Reorganization & Creditors Rights' Practice Groups.
Prior to joining Genova Burns, Mr. Cerqueira served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Terry Paul Bottinelli, J.S.C. (ret.) in the Superior Court of New Jersey - Bergen Vicinage, Family Division, where he assisted in the management of matrimonial post-judgment docket, which included drafting weekly motion summaries, order to show cause, and legal research. Mr. Cerqueira also served as judicial intern with Judge Donald A. Kessler, J.S.C. (ret.), Superior Court of New Jersey, Chancery Division, General Equity, assisting in preparing of summary judgment motions and default judgment in mortgage foreclosures.
Mr. Cerqueira also served as Judicial law clerk for Honorable Rosemary Gambardella, U.S.B.J., current Judge and former Chief Justice of the United States Bankruptcy Court for District of New Jersey. He assisted in drafting legal memorandums, motion summaries and adversary proceedings in Chapter 7, 11, and Chapter 13 bankruptcies. In the field of bankruptcy, Mr. Cerqueira gained experience as a judicial extern for the Honorable Stacey Meisel, U.S.B.J. in the summer of 2019 where he performed legal research and writing on Chapter 11 third-party exculpatory release clauses and civil contempt. He gained experience with Bankruptcy petitions as a Law Clerk at a local law firm.
While working as a law clerk in the Spring 2019 at Genova Burns, Mr. Cerqueira was exposed to and gained experience in the practice areas of Real Estate and Land Use Law.
Mr. Cerqueira received his Juris Doctor degree from Seton Hall University School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.
