Erica M. Clifford is an Associate in the Firm's Newark, NJ office and is a member of the Employment Law & Litigation and Human Resource Counseling & Compliance and Cannabis Law Practice Groups. She litigates in state and federal courts, representing public entities and large corporations in all aspects of civil litigation. Ms. Clifford has successfully settled cases with initial high six-figure demands for nominal amounts.
On behalf of employers, Ms. Clifford has successfully defended against employee claims of discrimination, harassment, hostile work environment and retaliation; handled contract disputes and counseled human resources executives and management on pre-litigation strategies. She has drafted and negotiated severance agreements, independent consultant contracts, restrictive covenants as well as prepared affirmative action plans.
Ms. Clifford has defended a broad range of claims against public entities, including those alleging personal injury, premises liability, civil rights violations and employment-related claims. She has advised school boards and superintendents on myriad legal issues to ensure compliance with new legislation, case law and advisory opinions.
Ms. Clifford presented at the New Jersey Association of School Administrators Spring Leadership Conference and 2017 National School Boards Association Conference on social media and cyber bullying.
Prior to joining Genova Burns, Ms. Clifford was an associate at a general practice law firm where she focused on employment litigation, defense of public entities and education law. During law school, Ms. Clifford interned for the Honorable Jose L. Linares, United States District Judge, now Judge for the District of New Jersey.
