While New Jersey tax credits have already been awarded under the New Jersey Film and Digital Media Tax Credit Program, recent changes to the law have created two new designations that are meant to encourage the development of large, long-term studio facilities—Studio Partner and Film-Lease Partner—and the applications for these designations are now live on the NJEDA website.

12.24.2020New Jersey Economic Recovery Act of 2020On December 21, 2020, the New Jersey Legislature passed the “New Jersey Economic Recovery Act of 2020” (the “Economic Recovery Act”), an omnibus piece of legislation which provides support for various programs and policies related to jobs, property development, food deserts, community partnerships, small and early-stage businesses, among others. The bill now heads to Governor Murphy, who is expected to sign it into law.
07.08.2020New Permit Extension Act Enacted in Response to COVID-19As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to significantly affect all aspects of the real estate industry, the legislature of the State of New Jersey has passed amendments to the Municipal Land Use Law (the “MLUL”), codified at N.J.S.A. 40D:55-1, et. seq. The amendments contained in Assembly Bill A-3919 (the “Law”) will have a significant effect on pending real estate projects, both those that have received land use approvals and those with pending applications before municipal land use boards.
