Genova Burns LLC, the New Jersey powerhouse law-firm, is pleased to announce two promotions. As of April 1st, Matthew Kertz has been promoted to Partner, and Len Spinelli has made Counsel.
Matthew Kertz, Esq.
Matthew Kertz, Esq., is a specialist in Commercial Real Estate Leasing, and focuses on corporate transactions. He works with clients drafting and negotiating retail, office and industrial leases and assisting landlords and tenants in resolving all aspects of leasing, acquisition, and litigation-related issues. Mr. Kertz drafts and negotiates franchise leases, non competes, guarantees, and counsels clients on related matters.
Mr. Kertz routinely counsels commercial purchasers and sellers regarding acquisitions, sales, leasing and development projects as well as acquiring and disposing real estate. He advises landlords and tenants in commercial real estate disputes and assists in litigation before state and federal courts. He handles commercial contract and settlement negotiations and represents numerous clients with national real estate portfolios regarding lease negotiations and disputes throughout the country and is involved in litigation examining novel questions of real estate law.

Leonard S. Spinelli, Esq.
Len Spinelli, Esq., an experienced commercial litigator and Bankruptcy professional, has been promoted to Counsel. Mr. Spinelli has diverse experience representing businesses in a variety of complex commercial litigation, creditor’s rights, reorganization and bankruptcy, government and regulatory affairs, and employment law and litigation. Mr. Spinelli’s experience poises him to address many of the complex legal issues that confront businesses on a day-to-day basis.
Mr. Spinelli began his career at a national bankruptcy firm representing individuals and small business owners in bankruptcy, then moved on to representing creditor’s rights in litigation and bankruptcy. As his practice expanded to regulatory affairs and investigations, he aided large financial institutions responding to direct inquiries from regulators and providing consultative services to institutions responding to industry trends.
As a litigator, Mr. Spinelli has appeared in courts across New York and New Jersey. As a former New Jersey Deputy Attorney General, he represented departments and agencies in complex single- and multi-plaintiff employment matters. Mr. Spinelli has extensive experience in complex electronic discovery and data collection, and previously served as a civilian contractor to the United States military where he oversaw the largest electronic discovery collection and review in U.S. Army history. “Len is on an amazing upward trajectory,” says Dan Stolz, Leader of the active Bankruptcy Practice at the Firm.
