Harris Freier Installed as Chair of The Urban League of Union County Board of Directors

Genova Burns is proud to announce that Partner Harris S. Freier has recently been installed as Chair of the Board of Directors of The Urban League of Union County, Inc.

The Urban League of Union County Inc., founded in 1944, is a non-profit community based organization in Elizabeth, New Jersey. They are one of 89 affiliates of the 107 year old National Urban League located in New York City. The mission of the Urban League is to assist African Americans and other minority group members in the achievement of social and economic equality. They employ the tools and methods of social work and intervene at all points in the social and economic structure where the interest of blacks and other minorities and the poor are at stake. They supply information on the minority population, conduct surveys, training programs, secure jobs, motivate youth, and provide essential services in education, housing, health and welfare.

The structure of the agency is nonpartisan and biracial in its leadership and staff. They are governed by a Board of Directors who represent various areas of the community and serve for a specific term from the corporate, educational, religious, legal and public arenas.

About Harris S. Freier

Since starting as an Associate with Genova Burns in 2010 and making Partner five years later, Mr. Freier has been an integral part of Genova Burns’ litigation practice.

Mr. Freier commits a significant amount of time to pro bono representation, including securing a victory before the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals in a prison abuse litigation. He has previously provided employment counseling to a non-profit dance group. In addition to his recent appointment as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Urban League of Union County, Mr. Freier has devoted significant time outside of the office to the community, serving previously as member of the Covenant House of New Jersey Legal Board, a Board Member of the Workforce Professionals Training Institute (NYC), and of the Temple Emanu-El (Westfield) Personnel Committee. Mr. Freier was recently elected to the Board of Trustees of Temple Emanu-El (Westfield) in June of 2020. He graduated as a fellow of Lead New Jersey.

On a daily basis, Mr. Freier demonstrates the highest level of professional commitment and excellence in advocacy on behalf of both his corporate and pro bono clients.
