Jennifer Roselle and Justine Abrams Present Medical Marijuana Seminar to New Jersey State League of Municipalities

March 27, 2019

Counsel Jennifer Roselle and Associate Justine L. Abrams will present a seminar to the New Jersey State League of Municipalities at a Professional Development Program today entitled, "Medical Marijuana: What Public Employers Need to Know in New Jersey".

New Jersey’s Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act (NJCUMMA) decriminalizes medical marijuana, but what does that mean for the workplace? The interplay between NJCUMMA, the Federal Controlled Substances Act, the various federal and state laws prohibiting workplace discrimination against disabled individuals, and the various laws affecting drug policies has caused confusion for many employers in New Jersey. Ms. Roselle and Ms. Abrams will explain those laws and discuss what protections medical marijuana users do and do not have in the workplace, as well as the negotiability of drug testing issues in the context of collective bargaining. Also, they will touch on the current status of the laws pertaining to the recreational use of Marijuana and the differences between this and Medicinal Marijuana.
