October 21, 2019  |  By: Brigette N. Eagan, Esq.

Attorneys in Genova Burns’ Employment Law & Litigation and Human Resource Counseling & Compliance Practice Groups will present at the New Jersey Coalition of Automotive Retailers’ (NJCAR) Controller & Office Manager Workshop "Are You Ready for 2020?" on on Tuesday, October 22nd and November 19th.

Attendees will learn what new wage and hour laws are in effect in 2020 that must be included in their Employee Handbooks: Updates to NJ Family Leave, NJ Family Leave Insurance and the NJ SAFE Act; Increase in the NJ Minimum Wage; and Mandatory Notices for Distribution and Posting.

Our attorneys presentation will also discuss the following:

  • New Jersey’s Wage Theft Act (WTA) significantly enhances penalties under NJ’s wage and hour laws by adding liquidated damages, providing extra protections for employee retaliation claims and holding employers and contractors liable for any violations of the provisions of State wage and hour laws. Learn what you can do to protect your Dealership from a NJDOL audit and costly fines and penalties.
  • Salary History Ban – Effective January 1, 2020, employers are barred from screening job applicants based on wage or salary history and may not consider an applicant’s refusal to volunteer salary history in any employment decisions, including finalizing any employment contracts. Learn the Dos and Don’ts of what you can and cannot ask job candidates.
  • Update on Workplace Protections in New Jersey’s Amended Medical Cannabis Law and the July 2019 updates to the New Jersey Compassionate Use Medical Marijuana Act (NJCUMMA).
  • What’s on Governor Murphy’s and the New Jersey Division on Civil Right’s (DCR’s) Agenda for Employers for 2020.
