Genova Burns Continues Partnership With The Salvation Army For Angel Tree Initiative Benefitting Needy Families In The Newark Area During The Holidays
December 21, 2023
Genova Burns LLC is proud to have teamed up with The Salvation Army again this year for their Angel Tree Program, benefitting needy families in the Newark area during the holiday season.
The Salvation Army Newark serves children from “Tier-One needs” local schools through their afterschool programs, case management programs, relationships with schools in the area, or anyone who registers through another avenue. Selected children into the Angel Tree program are allowed to ask for three toy wishes, one of which will be fulfilled by an Angel. The unwrapped gifts are then set up in a "toy shop" on the Salvation Army premises so that parents can come to "shop" and personally pick out a gift for their children, preserving their dignity and enabling them to choose the gift that best suits their child.
"Every child deserves to experience the joy of Christmas morning. The Salvation Army Angel Tree program helps provide Christmas gifts for hundreds of thousands of children around the country each year. Once a child or senior adult has been registered and accepted as an Angel their Christmas wish list is shared with donors in your community who purchase gifts of new clothing and toys. The gifts are distributed to the family to place under their family Christmas tree." Applications can be found at the following link: https://saangeltree.org/.
The Salvation Army Newark was first established in 1867 to help the poor and truly needy throughout the area. Since then, its services have grown dramatically to include a broad program of social services, emergency assistance, disaster services, youth programs and pastoral ministries. The Salvation Army Newark Area Services is a representation of programs and services in the City of Newark and its surrounding areas. The Salvation Army’s work can be viewed through two lenses: programs and services that temper the present crisis and those that transform the future. Although The Salvation Army’s basic purpose has always remained the same, its focus evolves with the times to better serve community needs. A community’s unmet needs are truly at the forefront of The Salvation Army’s work; hence our programs and services may be different in every community.
The Salvation Army USA is dedicated to their mission of being there for folks when they need it most – whether because of hunger, natural disaster, or holiday need. While The Salvation Army is a church – all their social services are offered to participants without any requirement or expectation of faith or any other factor; need is the only determining factor in their services. In fact, in their mission statement they are bound to “meet human needs … without discrimination.”
