Partner Rajiv Parikh Joins Governor Murphy on Trade Mission to India

Esteemed Asian Indian Partner Represents Business, Industry , and Professional Services

September 27, 2019

Genova Burns LLC, one of the top law firms serving New Jersey and the greater Northeast, announced today that Rajiv (Raj) D. Parikh, a Partner of the Firm, is part of the official delegation accompanying New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy on his mission trip to India which began yesterday in Delhi, India. Parikh will be among the representatives of the Professional Services sector of the overall delegation, which, as a whole, represents a cross section of business and industry across the Garden State.

“I am honored to be part of the New Jersey delegation on this important trip. I look forward to joining peers and colleagues from across the State as we work with Governor Murphy, Choose New Jersey, and our business counterparts in India to find ways for the state to work more closely with India-based corporations,” said Parikh before his departure. “New Jersey has one of the largest Indian-born populations in the United States, and India is the state’s fourth largest trading partner. These two elements alone provide fertile ground for the development of closer industrial and business bonds between New Jersey and India. As an Asian Indian myself, I see this potential first hand, and am looking forward to adding my expertise and support to the Governor’s efforts.”

During the trip, Parikh and the New Jersey delegation will meet with business, education and community organizations and leaders to discuss potential relationships with the State of New Jersey and explore doing business in the United States. Specifically, Parikh will join members of the delegation in meeting and visits with the US-India Business Council; the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry; NASSCOM, a leading not-for-profit IT association in India; and members of the Indian financial technology community.

Giving Back to the South Asian Community

Parikh serves the community as General Counsel for the Share & Care Foundation and the Hindu American Seva Communities, and as a board member of the Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey and the New Jersey District Court Historical Society. He was previously the Vice President for Affiliate Relations for the South Asian Bar Association of North America, and in leadership roles in the Asian Pacific American Lawyers Association of New Jersey and the South Asian Bar Association of New Jersey.

Parikh, recently recognized as a new leader by the New Jersey Bar, is a highly acclaimed litigator, crisis manager and counselor. A Partner of the firm, he is the Chair of Genova Burns’ Construction Law & Litigation and the Election Law & Litigation Practices, and is Co-Chair of the Crisis Management Practice and Hotels & Restaurants Industry Group. He is also a member of the Complex Commercial Litigation, Public Procurement, Government Relations, Intellectual Property and other Practice Groups.

Genova Burns will also soon launch an India Practice Group, which will be led by Parikh. This new facet of the Firm will include regulatory, transactional (including business formation), immigration, and all labor and employment aspects that would be associated with locating United States operations of India-based companies in New Jersey and the Northeast.

As a professional attorney, Parikh has provided his expertise at the State level. He has served as Senior Counsel to Governor Murphy as part of his 2018 transition team, and has worked closely with the Governor and his senior team on issues of statewide importance. Parikh is also one of only a handful of lawyers in the nation to handle complex election-related litigation as well as advise candidates on strategic matters.

“Genova Burns embraces opportunities for our attorneys to get more deeply involved in their community, be it at the local, regional, state or federal level. Raj Parikh is the perfect representative for our State and our profession as Governor Murphy and the delegation look to build stronger relationships and develop options for India-based corporations in New Jersey,” said said Angelo Genova, Co-Founder, Managing Partner, and Chairman of Genova Burns LLC. “We look forward to hearing Raj’s report on this most important trip, and learning where the Firm might be able to counsel and support the growth of Indian companies in the United States.”
