Dina Mastellone Quoted in New Jersey Business Magazine

September 13, 2018

Firm Partner Dina Mastellone was recently quoted in an article entitled “Compensation Equation Gets More Complicated” in New Jersey Business Magazine. The article discusses the importance of New Jersey businesses complying with the new Diane B. Allen Equal Pay Act and how they can do that.

Ms. Mastellone called the new equal pay act “a game changer.” “All businesses must look at their existing pay practices to ensure compliance,” she said in the article. “If, after performing their pay practice review, there is a pay differential, unfair or discriminatory pay differences must be immediately corrected.”

Ms. Mastellone also expressed her views on annual performance reviews, ways that employers can compensate workers beyond salary to improve employee morale, and the challenge of keeping up with changing state and federal laws for smaller businesses. Her quotes on these subjects include: “Annual performance evaluations play a vital role in communicating, documenting and justifying employee compensation decisions…Studies show that incentives and rewards lead to higher job satisfaction and retention rates as well as an increase in employees’ sense of satisfaction with their lives in general…we work closely with owners of small businesses, as well as managers and supervisors, to avoid costly human resource errors in order to protect their business, especially in avoiding violations of wage and hour laws.”
