Co-founding Partner Angelo J. Genova was featured in an article on Politicker NJ commenting on yesterday’s United States Supreme Court decision in Shelby County v. Holder which ruled that Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act was unconstitutional.  In a 5-4 decision, the Court ruled that the section is predicated on old data that does not reflect current conditions.  Mr. Genova stated that “The protections afforded by the VRA are still required, in my view, and remain as necessary today as they were in 1965.”  Mr. Genova has been a leader in election law for over three decades; he was lead counsel on a seminal case Democratic Nat'l Committee v. Republican Nat'l Committee, where he attained a voting rights victory on behalf of his client with a successful Third Circuit decision and subsequent Supreme Court denial of certiorari in the culmination of a thirty year long court battle reaffirming vital protections against minority voter suppression.
