Genova Burns Welcomes Susan S. Long to the Bankruptcy Practice

December 19, 2023

Genova Burns LLC proudly announces the addition of Susan S. Long as Counsel to the firm’s expanding bankruptcy practice. Susan brings a wealth of experience having served clients in her private practice since 2009 and as a former litigator and New Jersey Deputy Attorney General.

A graduate of Fordham University School of Law, Susan is admitted to practice in the State of New Jersey, U.S. District Court of New Jersey, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. She currently serves on the board of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC) and is a member of the Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey. Susan has been a presenter and speaker on various bankruptcy and practice related topics. She is an ardent supporter of pro bono services and earned the Equal Justice Medal for her work in 2019.

Susan joins the firm as the need for bankruptcy guidance and reorganization grows. “As a law firm, we have always prided ourselves on giving our clients what they need,” says James M. Burns, Esq., Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Genova Burns. “Sometimes that means providing services when people’s companies or personal finances are distressed.”

As a long-time bankruptcy attorney, Susan brings to the firm experience working with creditors, small businesses, and individuals, and is able to counsel all on the best options available, whether it is an out-of-court resolution, court-guided restructuring, or the closure of a business and possible liquidation.

“Coming to terms with the fact that you need a bankruptcy attorney is not a pleasant process,” says Susan. “Whether you are a creditor or debtor, you always want to find the least painful route out of financial distress. Providing understanding and compassion makes it easier for clients enduring these challenges,” continues Susan. Throughout her career, she has counseled clients through asset valuations, liquidation analyses, out-of-court settlements, and both personal and business bankruptcies.

“We are happy to welcome Susan to our growing bankruptcy team,” says Dan Stolz, Chairman of the Bankruptcy, Reorganization & Creditors’ Rights specialty. “We believe Susan’s skills will help us serve our diverse client base as the number of bankruptcy cases nationwide continues to grow at a rapid pace.”
