Hon. Harvey Weissbard’s Fifty Years of Service to be Recognized by Essex County Bar Association

Genova Burns congratulates Hon. Harvey Weissbard,  Of Counsel, on his upcoming recognition by the Essex County Bar Association for fifty years of service. A member of the Firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice Groups, Mr. Weissbard served as a Judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division for eight years and, prior to that, served as a trial judge in the Criminal Division. Mr. Weissbard has numerous significant published decisions in many different areas of law, including criminal, employment, land use, privacy and torts. Mr. Weissbard was appointed by the Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court as Chairman of the Supreme Court’s Committee on the Rules of Evidence and is still an active member. He was also chosen to serve as Vice Chairman of the Committee on Recordation of Custodial Interrogations, which led to a landmark report adopted by the Supreme Court, requiring recordation of law enforcement questioning of criminal suspects. Prior to his judicial appointment, he sustained a vigorous trial and appellate practice for thirty-five years. He tried numerous civil and criminal cases and also argued many appeals on both the state and federal levels. He was President of the New Jersey Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, a trustee of the New Jersey State Bar Association and he is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and member of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
