Gary N. Marks, Of Counsel to the firm’s Bankruptcy, Reorganization & Creditors’ Rights Practice, has more than 40 years’ experience practicing law in New Jersey state and federal courts and has specialized in insolvency and debtor-creditor law.

Mr. Marks has extensive experience in representing debtors, creditors’ committees, and trustees in significant bankruptcy cases. Mr. Marks works with clients, from small closely held businesses to large corporations, devising the right strategy for each unique situation. He is an accomplished insolvency attorney whether helping a debtor navigate the chapter 11 process or working with creditors to maximize the value of collateral or the return on their claims

Admitted to the New Jersey bar in 1977, Gary served as a judicial clerk to the Honorable Joseph G. Barbieri and the Honorable Richard P. Muscatello of the Superior Court of New Jersey in Union County. Following his clerkship, Mr. Marks built as a general practitioner with a local New Jersey firm. He was exposed daily to numerous substantive areas of law (e.g., commercial, corporate, contract, UCC, litigation) that would prove invaluable in the future when issues involving multiple practice areas would constantly arise in his insolvency cases.
He then continued in his career working at a highly regarded insolvency boutique firm in New Jersey where he spent 18 years honing his craft and becoming one of the top New Jersey attorneys in the field.

Mr. Marks was then recruited by a mid-sized regional law firm serving the New Jersey-New York-Pennsylvania market, to develop and lead a bankruptcy practice group. In time, he curated a group of seasoned insolvency attorneys offering quality legal representation to all the key players in insolvency proceedings ― debtors, creditors’ committees, trustees, assignees for the benefit of creditors, receivers, secured creditors, landlords, municipalities and more.

He has been appointed by the Office of the United States Trustee as an operating Chapter 11 trustee in several significant cases and has also served as a state court assignee for the benefit of creditors and court-appointed receiver in important matters.

Finally, after almost 20 years, Mr. Marks chose to form his own firm, where he continued to offer quality insolvency law services to clients in need until now joining Genova Burns LLC as Of Counsel.
