Laurence D. Laufer, Partner in the firm’s New York City office, heads the firm’s Corporate Political Activity Law Practice Group.
Mr. Laufer represents corporations, trade associations, political action committees (PACs) and political candidates in legal matters such as campaign finance, government affairs (lobbying) compliance and corporate ethics.
From 1988 to 2000, Mr. Laufer served as Counsel to the Executive Director and as General Counsel of the New York City Campaign Finance Board.
He served as Chairman of the Special Committee on Election Law, NYC Bar from 2004 to 2007. He has served as faculty for numerous legal education programs, including, "The State Legislature and the State Constitution: The Path Foward" (NYS Bar, Jan. 2010), New York City Conflicts of Interest Board annual ethics seminars (May 2007 and May 2009), "Representing a Political Candidate (And Winning!)" (NYS Bar, May 2008), "Municipal Ethics: Lobbying Requirements at the Municipal Level in New York" (NYS Bar, Jan. 2008), “Campaign Finance Law and the Future of Spending Constraints” (NYU Law School, Feb. 2007), “McCain-Feingold: The Plight of First Amendment Regulation” (NYC Bar, 2004), and “Working Through the Campaign Finance Maze: Federal, State and City Campaign Finance Law and Practice,” (NYC Bar, 2003).

Mr. Laufer received his Juris Doctor degree from Columbia University, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, in 1985. He was graduated magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia College in 1982.
