For the fifth consecutive year, Genova Burns participated in Jersey Cares Frosty’s Friends program, which gives volunteers the opportunity to directly help children ages 4 -16 in need during the holiday season.
Through the program, volunteers at Genova Burns received letters and holiday wish lists written by children and responded to their requests with gifts and school supplies in an effort to spread holiday cheer this season.
Children receiving gifts from Frosty’s Friends come from shelters, transitional housing facilities and schools in the Newark area.

On December 14th Partner Judson Stein and of Counsel Joseph Bottitta will participate in a New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) program entitled “Let’s Write a Will.”

Dina M. Firm Counsel Joseph M. Hannon will lead two sessions entitled “The Sun is Not Setting on c. 78” and “Interest Arbitration Update” at the 100th Annual New Jersey State League of Municipalities Conference on November 18 and 19 at the Atlantic City Convention Center.
The session entitled “The Sun is Not Setting on c. 78” will focus on the sunset provision on Chapter 78 health benefits that took effect in June 2015 and how it operates for both union and non-union employees. Mr, Hannon will specifically concentrate on how to handle negotiations in light of the current sunset provision once employees reach Tier 4 of the Chapter 78 benefits. The session will also discuss strategies for negotiation in the response to the Affordable Care Act’s “Cadillac Tax”, coming into effect in 2018.
The session entitled “Interest Arbitration Update” will cover current status and trends in interest arbitration, law enforcement and firefighting units.

Krauss will participate on a panel entitled “Business Exit Strategies for Closely Held Businesses” at the upcoming New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants Annual Tax Seminar at Bergen Community College. Mr. Krauss will join his co-panelists in an informative discussion on mergers and acquisitions, gifts and trusts and employee stock ownership plans. The panel will also delve into liquidating events such as selling one’s business and how to grow one’s business in anticipation of a liquidating event.

Dina M. Mastellone, Partner and Director of the Human Resource Training and Audit Programs Practice Group, will present at New Jersey State Bar’s Mid-Year Meeting in New Orleans, LA on November 6, 2015. Ms. Mastellone will take part in the meeting’s Labor and Employment Law panel entitled “An Update on Garden State Law from the Crescent City”, which will provide attendees with an update on recent New Jersey Supreme Court and Appellate Division employment law decisions released at the end of this most recent term. Joseph A. Bottitta, Ethics Counsel to the Firm, has been appointed to serve on the recently formed Supreme Court Ad Hoc Committee on the Uniform Bar Examination. A Law360 article announcing formation of the committee stated that it “has been formed to “to study the possibility of using the National Conference of Bar Examiner test, which will “significantly affect” New Jersey bar exam applicants because about half of them also test in New York, according to a statement from the New Jersey Judiciary on Wednesday.”
“The New Jersey Supreme Court is considering replacing the state’s existing bar examination with a standardized version of the test, a measure that was adopted in New York this year and would allow those who pass to practice in other states that use the test.”
Mr. Bottitta, former President of the New Jersey State Bar Association and Essex County Bar Association, has also been appointed to the New Jersey Supreme Court’s Special Committee on Attorney Ethics and Admissions to review the recent American Bar Association (ABA) amendments to the Model Rules of Professional Conduct and standards for admission to practice law for attorneys from other jurisdictions.
