Seven Genova Burns Attorneys Named Best Lawyers in America, 2016 Edition

Seven attorneys from the Law Firm of Genova Burns have been selected by their peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America©, 2016 Edition. Angelo J. Rajiv Parikh Offered Insight to Members of the Rutgers Law School Minority Student Program

Firm Partner Rajiv D. Parikh recently spoke to incoming first-year law students that are part of the Rutgers Law School Minority Student Program about opportunities in the legal profession, practical aspects of securing employment and leveraging contacts. Genova Burns has been a supporter of the Rutgers Law School Minority Student Program and other organizations and client-firm partnerships focused on improving diversity in the legal profession. Mr. Parikh, who is a graduate of Rutgers Law School, also chairs the firm’s diversity initiative.

Mr. Parikh is a member of the Complex Commercial Litigation, Intellectual Property Law, Construction Law & Litigation, Corporate Political Activity Law, and White Collar Criminal Defense, Corporate Internal Investigations & Corporate Ethics Practice Groups.

Rebecca Moll Freed Discusses Achieving Success on Flex Time Schedule in American Bar Association Magazine Article

Partner Rebecca Moll Freed was recently featured in an American Bar Association Magazine article entitled, “Women Flex into Success” The article focuses on attorneys from across the country who have achieved success while working on flexible schedules. When asked what guidance she would provide to attorneys who are interested in flex-time, Ms. Freed said, “When you work a flexible schedule, you can achieve a lot, but it can take you longer.” The key is continuing to seek feedback. “It’s always hard to ask, ‘What do I need more of’ and not be afraid of the answer.” But you need to find out the benchmarks and where you need more experience, and that requires a dialogue.” Achieving your goals also requires being flexible-just like your work schedule. “I was brought up to believe you can do and be anything and not to let anybody tell you differently.”

Ms. Freed is Director of the Corporate Political Activity Law and the Non-Profit and Tax Exempt Organizations Practice Group. She is also a member of the Public Contract Law & Bid Protest Litigation Practice Group. Ms. Freed served as Co-Chair of the firm’s Inclusionary Initiative from 2013 to 2015.

Rajiv D. Parikh Named NJBIZ 40 Under 40

Genova Burns is proud to announce that Firm Partner Rajiv D. Parikh has been named as one of NJBIZ’s 40 Under 40 business people in New Jersey for 2015. The publication noted that the chosen individuals are “40 of New Jersey’s most accomplished young businessmen and women who have been making headlines in their field and who share a commitment to business growth, professional excellence and the community – the next generation of unstoppable leaders!” Nominees were scored by an independent panel of judges based on a specific set of criteria: Professional Accomplishments, Leadership, Vision, and Community Service.

Mr. Parikh is a member of the Firm’s Complex Commercial Litigation, Intellectual Property Law, Construction Law & Litigation, and Corporate Political Activity Law Practice Groups. He is a litigator and trial attorney with substantial experience in complex commercial disputes, intellectual property litigation, electronic discovery, franchise litigation, large scale construction disputes, and constitutional challenges. In addition, Mr. Parikh has an expertise with strategic counseling and litigation related to online reputation management, harassment and defending against internet/social media defamation campaigns. Mr. Parikh has also been involved with a variety of election and voting rights related litigations throughout New Jersey, including matters concerning the Democratic National Committee, and candidates for local, state and federal offices. He serves as general counsel to the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, and the campaigns of Senator Cory Booker, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman and others.

Mr. Parikh is a Barrister for the John C. Lifland American Inn of Court and a member of the Association of the Federal Bar of New Jersey, the South Asian Bar Association of New Jersey and the Asian Pacific American Lawyers Association of New Jersey. He serves as Vice-President of Affiliate Relations for the South Asian Bar Association of Noth America, Acting-President of the APALA-NJ Foundation, and Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the Historical Society of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He also serves on the boards of directors of the South Asian Caucus of the New Jersey Democratic State Committee, and the New Leaders Council of New Jersey.

John Vreeland Nominated President of the New Jersey Chapter of the Labor & Employment Relations Association

Partner John Vreeland has been nominated to serve as the President of the New Jersey Chapter of the Labor and Employment Relations Association (NJLERA) for the organization’s 2015/2016 and 2016/2017 program years. NJLERA is a organization of professionals from New Jersey and contiguous states who are interested in labor & employment relations and human resource management. The chapter includes members from the management, labor, neutral (including arbitrators and mediators), government, and academic fields. NJLERA holds six dinner meetings a year where members listen to distinguished speakers and share their knowledge and experience. The New Jersey Chapter is affiliated with the Labor and Employment Relations Association (formerly the Industrial Relations Research Association), which sponsors national meetings for practitioners and academics and publishes books, conference proceedings, and periodicals that are designed for a wide audience.

Mr. Vreeland is Director of the Wage & Hour Compliance Practice Group and a member of the Education Law and Labor Law Practice Groups.
