Jim Bucci, partner in the firm’s Camden, NJ and Philadelphia, PA offices, has been named by Super Lawyers magazine as one of the top attorneys in Pennsylvania in the Labor and Employment Law area for 2008. Super Lawyers is a comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding attorneys representing a wide range of practice areas, firm sizes and geographic locations. The selection process includes a state-wide survey of attorneys, a peer review evaluation by top attorneys in each practice area, and an independent evaluation by the publisher’s attorney-led research staff. Only five percent of lawyers in Pennsylvania are named by Super Lawyers. The results will also appear in a special section in the June 2008 issue of Philadelphia magazine.
Partner Angelo J. Genova will be presenting at the 30th Annual Litigating Employment Discrimination Claims conference for the Practising Law Institute. The Practising Law Institute (PLI) is one of the most prestigious providers of continuing legal education and selects only the most experienced practitioners as faculty. Mr. Genova will be lecturing on the use of statistical evidence in establishing and defeating a prima facie case of disparate impact discrimination as well as recent developments and the expanding use of statistics to prove disparate treatment discrimination. The conference will be held at the Practising Law Institute Conference Center in New York on Tuesday, June 17th.
Mr. Genova is a leading member of the New Jersey Bar in the practice areas of Labor & Employment Law, Election Law and Complex Litigation and Appeals and currently serves as Chairman of the Section on Labor and Employment Law of the New Jersey State Bar Association.
On Thursday, June 12th, partner Brian W. Kronick will speak on the topic of “Changing World of Health Benefits” at the New Jersey Association of Counties 58th Annual Conference. The conference will be held at Bally’s Park Place and the Boardwalk in Atlantic City Tuesday, June 10th through Friday, June 13th. Mr. Kronick is a member of the firm’s Labor & Employment Law Practice Group.
GBV partner and co-founder, Angelo J. Genova, will be inducted into the Essex County Democratic Committee Hall of Fame at a dinner ceremony Monday, May 19th in Belleville, New Jersey. This recognition comes after almost three decades of work and commitment as the legal representative of the New Jersey Democratic Party and numerous party candidates and officials. Mr. Genova served two terms as Chair of the Election Law Committee for the New Jersey State Bar Association in 1998 and 1999. Mr. Genova will share this honor with Senator Nia Gill and the Honorable John Clancy.
Partner Angelo J. Genova will receive the “William ‘Jazz’ Jones Brightest Star Award” from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Newark at a Prudential Center reception on Tuesday, June 17th. Extremely dedicated to helping improve the quality of life for inner city children and their families, Mr. Genova is being bestowed this honor as recognition for his many years of service. He joins a distinguished list of previous “Brightest Star Award” receipts including Queen Latifah, Muhammad Ali and former Governors Thomas H. Kean and Christine Todd Whitman. Presenting this award will be Ted Wells, litigation partner at the New York law firm of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP. Mr. Genova is a trustee of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark.
On Wednesday, June 18th attorneys from Genova, Burns & Vernoia and a total of 15 teams made up of north jersey law firms will take the field once again for the 22nd Annual “Battle of the Barristers” charity softball tournament. Since 1987, Northern New Jersey law firms have teamed up once a year for a full-day, round-robin softball tournament event from which the entire proceeds are donated to the Greater Newark Fresh Air Fund. Umpires include judges from New Jersey courts. Last year the event raised over $131,600 making it possible for 526 low-income and special needs children to spend a week at camp.
The 2008 tournament will begin at 2pm at Brookdale Park in Bloomfield, New Jersey. The two teams with the best record at the end of the round-robin will compete in the championship game which will be held that evening at the Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium in Newark.
